Mr. Charland is the founder and CEO of Merchant Medicine, LLC. He drives Merchant Medicine’s executive thought leadership, strategic planning, and operational engagements with health systems across the US. He is formerly SVP for Strategy and Business Development for MinuteClinic; Executive Director of National Association for Ambulatory Care (NAFAC); CEO Digital Cyclone (acquired by Garmin); Executive Director at Control Data Systems (acquired by British Telecom). In the last several years, he has been quoted regarding walk-in medicine in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Fox News, Dow Jones, and Bloomberg. He also speaks frequently on the subject at investment research meetings and hospital strategy conferences throughout the year. Mr. Charland received a BS in Communications from Boston University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA).
Mr. Kuhn is a Principal and CFO of Merchant Medicine, LLC. He assists clients with strategic planning, operations leadership, financial and operational modeling, employer programs, marketing, and real estate development. He was previously SVP for Corporate Development at Doctors Care in SC (52 urgent care centers, 21 physical therapy offices); he held a dual role as VP at parent insurer BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Prior to BCBSSC, Mr. Kuhn was a Senior Manager in KPMG’s management consulting group with experience across health care, insurance, pharmaceuticals, and retail clients. He is a Six Sigma Green Belt. Mr. Kuhn received a BA in Accounting at Michigan State University and an MBA at the University of Florida. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and previously a speaker and practice management committee member for the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA).
Rob Rohatsch, MD
Dr. Rohatsch is a Managing Director with Merchant Medicine LLC. He focuses on long-range plans and business growth and development for hospital system and private operator clients. Prior to Merchant Medicine, Dr. Rohatsch was a founding member of Physician One Urgent Care (formerly Urgent Care of Connecticut), having grown the company from a single center in 2008 to 10 centers today. Prior to that he was an attending physician in a busy inner-city emergency department for six years. He is a clinical instructor at Yale School of Medicine, teaching both medical students and residents. Dr. Rohatsch serves on the board of directors for the Northeast Regional Urgent Care Association and is chairman of the board for the Live for TJ – The TJ Lobraico Foundation. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during Desert Storm. Dr. Rohatsch is residency trained in Emergency Medicine. He completed his undergraduate education at California State University, Sacramento in 1992 and then moved to Philadelphia to Department of Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to assist in ongoing research in experimental ventilation techniques. He is a member of the Urgent Care Association of America and sits on the Continuing Education Committee. Dr. Rohatsch has been invited to speak at national conferences on urgent care medicine.
Jason North is a Managing Director with Merchant Medicine, LLC. He brings 27 years of experience in operations, multi-site management, sales and marketing across the urgent care and retail sectors. Mr. North was previously Vice President of Employer Health and Wellness Services for MedExpress (part of Optum, a division of UnitedHealthcare). He oversaw operations for occupational medicine and employer programs across 168 clinic locations in 14 states. Prior experience includes Vice President for Urgent Care at TeamHealth with five urgent care and occupational medicine companies with 16 clinics in 4 states plus administrative operations, and Director of Operations at Concentra managing operational and financial performance of 15 centers in Florida and Georgia. Mr. North has a BA from Palm Beach Atlantic University. He is a faculty member of the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) presenting on finance and strategy.
Ms. Scafuri is a Director with Merchant Medicine, LLC. She assists clients with center opening program/project management, staffing, day to day operations design, and organizational development. She brings over twenty years’ experience across healthcare, real estate, and retail operations, including the last seven years hands-on building out an urgent care operator. Most recently Ms. Scafuri was Practice Administrator (COO) for AppleCare Immediate Care in South Georgia with 14 locations, including 2 hospital Joint Venture urgent care centers, and built them from a few clinics in 2008 to a regional operator. She also oversaw provider credentialing, payer contracting, HR administration, and drove new clinic opening standardization including a company-wide set of policies and procedures. Prior to AppleCare, her background includes supervising a real estate brokerage and managing a chain of retail stores. Ms. Scafuri received her BS in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford NJ.
Ms. Stoimenoff is a Director with Merchant Medicine, LLC. She assists clients in optimizing center operations, quality improvement, policy, compliance, marketing, and the patient experience. Ms. Stoimenoff was first in an urgent care leadership position as the President of MATRIX Rehabilitation out of Plano, TX. MATRIX was a division of Beverly Enterprises principally established to acquire and operate over 160 outpatient physical therapy clinics; however, MATRIX acquired 11 urgent care clinics in North Carolina that were part of this division. She subsequently joined NextCare in 2004 serving as in various roles including EVP, Business Development and President. NextCare grew from 9 to 60+ centers and on-site employer locations during her tenure via acquisition, de novo and hospital partnerships. In total, Ms. Stoimenoff has over 30 years in ambulatory care leadership roles. She served seven years on the Board of Directors of the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA), and is the former Board Vice President. She is a trustee of the Urgent Care Foundation and services on the editorial Board of the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine. Additionally, she chairs UCAOA’s Health & Public Policy and Payer Relations Committees and Co-Chairs Accreditation & Certification. She is a graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in Allied Health and Physical Therapy and is certified in healthcare compliance (CHC) through the Health Care Compliance Association.
Ms. Patterson is a Director with Merchant Medicine, LLC. She supports clients in all areas of center development, market analysis, financial analytics, compliance, ancillaries and performance improvement. Ms. Patterson joined NextCare Urgent Care in 1997, serving in multiple capacities as the organization grew exponentially. She managed nearly every area during her tenure, including the Business Office, Compliance, IT, Clinical Services (Lab, Radiology, Dispensing), Development and Operations. She was integral in the customization of NextGen to meet our needs and developed over 30 de novo or relocation sites. Ms. Patterson continues to lead these development projects with hospital and medical practice clients in a consulting capacity. She is an active member of the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) and serves on its Practice Management Content Committee. She earned both an MBA and MHSA from Arizona State University and also holds a BS in Accounting. Ms. Patterson is certified in healthcare compliance (CHC) through the Health Care Compliance Association.
Ms. Broussard is a Senior Consultant with Merchant Medicine, LLC. She assists clients with center development expertise, budgeting, contracting and vendor management, site location analysis, clinic layout/design, and marketing programs. She brings five years of direct hands-on experience in designing and building an urgent care operation. Most recently, Ms. Broussard was Director of Operations for MHM Urgent Care in New Orleans, Louisiana (now at 19 locations including dedicated Occupational Medicine sites). She worked with MHM executive leadership to grow from concept to a regional chain of fully operational clinics. Ms. Broussard received her BS in Biology from Baylor University and MS in Health Care Management from the University of New Orleans.
Ms. Carcamo is a Senior Consultant with Merchant Medicine, LLC. She supports clients in organizational development, revenue cycle management, process improvement, and healthcare analytics. Ms. Carcamo’s experience includes 13 years in diverse healthcare leadership roles, including multi-site urgent care and related clinical operations. Most recently she consulted on Operational Improvements for a health systems leading cross-functional teams across service lines applying Lean/Six Sigma methodology. She is a Certified Trainer in Epic Ambulatory and has P&L experience running hospital service lines. Her urgent care experience spans over eight years including Operations Director for Concentra, and helped lead the growth and integration of Urgent Medical Care as Chief Human Resources Officer (urgent care chain acquired by Concentra). She brings hand-on expertise in center management, operational efficiency, financial management, and customer experience. Ms. Carcamo has a Six Sigma Green Belt certification and is bilingual in English and Spanish. Ms. Carcamo received her BA in Psychology and Marketing at Rhode Island College and MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of New Haven.
Ms. Harvieux is Client Services Manager at Merchant Medicine, LLC. She supports Merchant Medicine consulting engagements and data teams, coordinates Symposium and Product delivery, and drives marketing and IT functions. She has been with Merchant Medicine since its formation. She previously was Marketing and Software Specialist at NOW Care Medical Centers, Development Director at the National Association for Ambulatory Care (precursor to UCAOA), and a database specialist with McKesson Provider Technologies. Ms. Harvieux has a BS from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
Mr. Wright is a Consultant with Merchant Medicine, LLC. He assists clients with process analysis, project management, organizational engagement, development programs, and marketing strategies. He has experience working with health systems and on health network operations, which includes Palmetto Health, Piedmont Medical Center, and the Upper Midlands Rural Health Network. An active volunteer, he works with The Ability Experience (awareness for people with disabilities) and Relay for Life (American Cancer Society). Mr. Wright received his BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Care Management at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.
